IAM REFORM LETTER

SAMPLE LETTER YOU CAN SEND TO OTHER UNION MEMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY (or use your own words – just be sure to include the reform candidates):

Dear ________________:

I know you care deeply about our union and giving workers a voice across this country. I’m hoping you can help give every member a voice and a vote in our union by nominating the IAM Reform candidates (see below)

At 751, the International forced a vote for our members at Boeing over the holidays (over the objections of our District leadership and union activists), which resulted in thousands not being able to vote and a concessionary offer narrowly passing. We had a contract in place through 2016 AND Boeing was making record profits. This devastated our membership, lost pensions for all and erased what 78 years of solidarity had achieved.

If what happened at 751 goes unchallenged, it will set a dangerous pattern for other contracts across the country.

My goal is to ensure this doesn’t happen to another group of Machinists, but that can only happen if we change the top leadership in the IAM. One of our Business Reps at 751, Jason Redrup, has stepped up to run on the reform ticket to help change the direction of the IAM.

The IAM Constitution requires that candidates must be endorsed by 25 local lodges to be placed on the national ballot. We want to give every member a voice and a vote in our union. Help us ensure members get to vote on our International leadership by nominating IAM reform candidates on January 25th so we can have our first election since 1961.

All of us got involved in the union because we wanted to make a difference and give workers a voice; now it’s time to use your voice. Help us ensure there is democracy in the IAM by nominating the IAM Reform ticket (below) so members can vote. Members and lodges may nominate any member including a mix of incumbents and reform or challenger candidates.  GVP positions are generic and not restricted by territory or slate, so a lodge could endorse members from different territories, the same territories or different “slates.”

Feel free to call me if you want to hear details of what happened here. Thanks for your help with this.

In solidarity,

IAM Nominations Flyers

candidatesrevPlease Share and Print! We will need everyone’s help ! IAM nominations are next Saturday, January 25th at IAM 751’s Seattle Union Hall. As of today the majority of our membership is still unaware that nominations are taking place! Most of our membership has not received the letter from IAM announcing nominations. That leaves the rank and file no choice but to spread the word ourselves. On Wednesday, we need volunteers to distribute flyers in all IAM Boeing locations. If you want to volunteer to help email me at rosiesmachinists751@gmail.com ASAP! We will also need volunteers to post flyers for the election endorsements happening on February 8th if you wish to volunteer for both let me know and I will add you to the list and set you up with dates and locations. Use the link above to download a PDF flyer with info about the nominees.
